So MANY OPTIONS —Where does coaching fit in?
Humans are complex, resourceful, and fluctuating. As we live our individual journeys of self-discovery and personal development, it is important that the support available to us is as varied as our needs. But with so much on offer to support our personal development there is a lot of noise around the question: what is it that I really need right now?
Mentoring, counselling, therapy, and coaching are all effective, valuable, and distinctive types of personal growth support. While there are crucial differences, they do often overlap. If you are thinking about bringing support in to your routine, distilling what type will give you what you need is an important first step.
Here is a helpful article put together by the brilliant minds behind Knomii—a collaborative practise run by a collective of professional therapists, counsellors, and coaches—that aims to demistify some of the differences between mentoring, coaching and counselling. You’ll also read another perspective on the power of transformational coaching here.
I work in a modality referred to as transformational coaching, which you can find out more about on My Approach page. I am not a trained mental health professional, and do not have professional experience in clinical psychology. I will never work outside of my professional boundaries, and am always happy to refer clients to the right pathway for them, if needed.
I have personally benefitted from coaching and mentoring, as well as therapy, in my life — each have been the right fit for the moment I was in. I encourage prospective clients to explore widely — distil what is right for you — before making a choice to work with someone. At the end of the day, it isn’t only the modality that is important, but the chemistry of the human connection, and how safe you feel in my professional space.
